What do you get when you combine 15 great tunes, eight exceptional musicians, and a singer with a wonderfully appealing voice who respects the songs, knows how to caress a lyric, and brings her own perspective to each selection? In this instance, you get Susie Meissner’s Tea for Two.
This is the third album for Susie Meissner, and each has had the combination of elements that make for good listening. The dominant feature is Susie’s vocalizing. She sings with assurance, her comfort with the material transferring easily to the listener. There is an unmistakable jazz influence in her work, putting a fresh face on songs that have been around for a long time.
Susie has recruited Ken Peplowski on clarinet, Larry McKenna on tenor sax, John Swana on trombone and EVI, Paul Meyers on guitar, Freddie Hendrix on trumpet and flugelhorn, John Shaddy on piano, Lee Smith on bass and Dan Monaghan on drums to play the creative arrangements penned by Shaddy
